FAQ

With this we hope to answer some of the more common questions asked by both our long term and new users. As time goes by, it can be easy to forget even vital information.

Bayview Water & Sewer District is a Quasi Municipal Corporation governed by the State of Idaho. We have a 5 member Board of Directors. The Board can vote in Ordinances and Resolutions that fit our District’s needs. Our Board Meetings are the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 3:00 p.m. Times of special meetings will be posted. The public is welcome to attend.

The Bayview Water & Sewer District is located at 16401 E. Emerson. There is a sign across from Bayview Post Office showing the way. Our mailing address is P.O. Box 637, Bayview, ID 83803. Our office phone number is 208-683-3948 and our fax number is 208-683-2984. Our office hours are Monday and Wednesday, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. We are closed Tuesday,Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The answering machine and fax are on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. An emergency can be responded to 24 hours a day. If a problem arises call the office first. If the answering machine picks up leave your phone number, a short message and your phone number again. The answering machine will tell you to hang up and call  208-659-4197 if it is an emergency.

Water hookup fees (for new construction) are currently $1,200.00 for residential and $1,500.00 for commercial. There is also a cap fee for water in the amount of $2,000.00 in Bayview proper and $9,592.08 in the Cape Horn area.

For Bayview proper there is a sewer cap fee of $8,276.95 although we have a moratorium on the sale of ER’s. There is also an $80.00 inspection fee when installing a septic tank. This is a specialized tank and you can stop by the office for a copy of the required specifications.

Cap fees increase every June 1st according to the cost of living rates. A sewer ER stands for “Equivalent Residency” which is an average household. At one time, every lot in town had at least 1 ER. Some have changed over the years.

Water rates are currently $24.00 per month for the first 5,000 gallons and $1.75 per 1,000 gallons over the initial amount. The sewer rates are $26.00 per month per ER.

In the winter we do not read meters because of the snow and freezing temperatures. In the spring we average the meter reading for each month. This is usually when we also find leaks. At this time, if you have a leak and show us that you have fixed it, within 30 days, we will adjust your account.

Bills can be paid thru the mail, at the drop box at the Mercantile or at the office. If we are closed there is a mail slot in the front door. At this time we cannot accept credit cards of any kind.

Our users should know that it is the responsibility of the Bayview Water & Sewer District to pump the septic tanks when needed. That is the reason if you have a problem call us first. The operators keep a regular check on the tanks. They clean the filters and check to see if the tanks need to be pumped. If there are any blockages between the house and the tank it is the responsibility of the home owner.  We also would like you to use as little bleach as possible because it kills the bacteria that make your tanks work. We prefer you not use powdered laundry detergent. It forms a thick crust in the tank because it doesn’t totally dissolve.

We hope to have answered many of your questions and please feel free to call or stop by the office if you have any other inquiries. We appreciate our community and wish to provide you with the best service possible. Thank you
